Wye Marsh Long-Term Restoration Plan
Midland, ON
Friends of Wye Marsh retained Stefan Bolliger Associates Inc. to develop a long-term restoration strategy for 36 acres of land within the Wye Marsh National Wildlife Area. Recognizing the importance of restoring habitats post-invasive species removal, our work involved categorizing 5 unique areas and conducting a thorough vegetation assessment and inventory of each in order to understand the scale of the challenge. We then formulated detailed planting plans featuring native species to the Wye Marsh region, tailored to the unique characteristics of lowland, upland, and marsh environments. These plans include specific planting units and densities for each area, planting details, and specifications, ensuring a strategic and effective restoration approach. This holistic approach will not only help in eradicating invasive species but also promotes the regeneration of native flora and fauna, ultimately enhancing the biodiversity and ecological health of the area.
