Grey County Rail Trail
Owen Sound, ON
This former section of rail corridor had all vegetation removed in order to accommodate new servicing and infrastructure requirements. Our firm’s task was to redesign the landscape element for this corridor and to explore a number of different levels of treatment along this important informal trail connection.
Native vegetation was chosen based on their ability to provide ecological benefits to local wildlife. This was done so that not only community members can enjoy the use of the trail by walking, running or biking, but wildlife can also use it as a corridor within the landscape to travel from greenspace to greenspace. Community members can make use of this trail year-round and enjoy the changing seasons. By implementing the proposed Landscape Plan, the Sydenham Heights Rail Trail can become a destination for fall photographers and recreationists alike.
